Was planning to do a picture for Ordinary, when going out today (after the tail end of Cyclone Wilma dumped 150mm of rain over Friday night, causing widespread flooding) found a section of the railway lines had been washed out. Took some pictures on way home (once repair work had been ceased for the day). Comments on if these show Unique be appreciated:

While this shows the washed out railway lines, feel is maybe too much of a "record" shot of the damage.

This shot shows more that is a washout, but possibly not that it is washed out railway lines.

The first could be construction. There is nothing in the photo that says washout to me.

The second is better, but it needs something. I'm not sure what. Maybe HDR. ne_nau.gif

Are you going for ordinary or unique? The photo itself doesn't say either very strongly to me.

What if you focused on the reflection in the last photo?

    ... I'm still peeling potatoes.

Unfortunately for me, I'm not close enough to the situation to understand the severity of the storms damage. The shots are nice, but they're not showing or telling me the story. And although I really like the composition in #2 in that it's almost an Ad-like shot for the machinery, I don't get a strong sense of either theme.

Thanks for the comments - yes, was concerned did not show the storm damage. After a days work does look more like a construction site than storm damage.
Have decided to go back to my original idea of Ordinary.
