As usual, good times skiing and enjoying the mountains last week. I thought I'd share a few images from a few days out there.

Amazing amazing shots! I have always wondered how someone would get to the summit of places like this to ski/snowboard back down. Do you really hike the whole way to the top, go down one time, and then hike back to the top again?

I would love to hear more about the trip as a whole!

wow, amazing! How did you get up there?

I climb up there. It's called ski mountaineering (link to def).

I'm glad you guys like these.

Here's my story and images on the trip (link)

There are many, many more trips on my website (here) that gives you a good idea on how we travel through the mountains.

    More questions, let me know.

Thank you! That was amazing to see! I live in North Seattle, and have just recently gotten into hiking around the area. I have been downhill skiing for years, but this takes those two past times to a whole new level! clap.gif

Winchester Lookout is my favorite. Sort of the payoff for a day of skiing in such a beautiful spot.

Change the sat and vibrance sliders to 0 in the RAW converter. Add contrast and clarity, push the noise reduction up to near 100 percent, then pull into Adobe CS4. 1. Levels 2. Shadow/highlight if needed 3. Gradient map if needed 4. Finish off sharpening 5. Some times (not in this case) dodge and burn 6. Save

    That's it!

Oh, when I take the image, I try and expose for BW, meaning a darker exposure, using a filter of some sort (but not always) to bring that out...but I broke that on a previous ski trip (4x6 Singh Ray) and can't afford another at the moment.

...hope that helps...off on another adventure in a few moments ;)

Wow, a lot simpler than I would have thought. I totally expected you to say something like "I shoot film." lol3.gif

I'll try that when I get home. Thanks for generously sharing your workflow! I know not everyone will do that :D

I'm sure people that really know PS can do a lot more. PS is as much of a learning process as taking pics. I'm always working to improve at both.

BTW, happy to share ;) Hopefully my adventure this week goes well and I come home with more pics.

I think the cool thing is there are always several ways to do something. I learned a quick trick using layers. Basically, duplicate the layer and using lighting to blend the layers.

    Your method works much better!

I can't even pick favorites this time. Being in the mountains, skiing, enjoying beautiful and sometimes dramatic weather - that's hard to beat.
