Fir the first year of their lives little blue herons are white, You can see that this youngster is just starting to turn blue.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I LOVE the first one with the crawfish! Did you see the LBH actually swallow it? It can't have gone down smoothly. We watched an egret try to swallow a crawfish a few years ago. The crawfish locked its claws around the bird's beak, and just would not let go. Finally the egret shook it off and looked for something easier. Best, Pam

Thanks Joel. I'm very, very happy with the results I'm getting from the 200-400.

Thanks Ric, I was happy with that "walking on the water" capture. Giving a subject some extra time pays off every now and then.

Thanks Allen it was a good day for flips. I caught quite a few, no really cool ones though, just a lot of tiny flips.

If only the snowy egrets were color blind. The immature little blues are able to mix with the more numerous snowy egrets while young helping them with foraging and protecting them from predators.

The snowys would not tolerate their presence if they were blue.

Thanks Pam, the little blue consumed the crayfish with no problem. This crayfish was not as feisty as the one you observed.

Beautiful set HB! Nice down that way!

SO this was the 200-400? Why does my EXIF say 500 or 550, any ideas?

Right now the 200-400 is used exclusively with my D3 camera, usually with the 1.4 TC and occasionally with the 1.7 TC. If the camera data shows the D3 its the 200-400.

I use the 500mm with my D300 and the 1.7 TC when I really need reach.

The EXIF seems to suggest you used the 1.7x with some these - really nice detail in spite of it!

Thanks Glenn the action at Viera has been pretty good of late. The GBHs are beginning to show some nesting activity of late.

I'll be in Atlanta for part of next week and then in mid Feb I'll be in New Orleans for 3 days but my schedule is pretty clear otherwise so come on down when you get the itch.
