PNGs Showing up with grey backgrounds

so I've uploaded a number of PNGs (some for watermarks and some for place holder graphics in a gallery). Since a few days ago, any PNG I've uploaded shows up with a grey background. This is the case in Chrome, FF, Safari, and IE. When I create a watermark out of the files they still have transparency so the PNG is still intact. Just doesn't show up right in a gallery.

Interesting you mention this. When I visited China and went to my site, the grey boxes appeared around my PNG files. Back in the U.S. everything looks fine. I'd be interested to know why this might have occurred.

Very interesting. didn't know China filtered PNGs haha.
Could you try to upload a new PNG and see if it does it for you now?
it doesn't.

@Andy: prior to Mike's CSS code above it does it for me on the main page http://fhsaa.glossyfinish.com To me (as seen in the screen shot below) the Cheer category is behaving correctly but the other categories are not. All those images are transparent PNGs.
The Cheer category works because it's a JPG and not a PNG.

We support pngs - but you need to view them at Original size. http://www.smugmug.com/help/upload-photos

Ah well no big deal. I'll just create jpgs for the gallery thumbnails.
Andy: thank for pointing that out. I'll work around it.
Thanks!
