Going in a different direction than my previous ideas.

I had today off from work so I had time to play a little.
Shot using the 12 second timer.

C&C welcome

I love it - both the expressions and the processing. Very 50's. I think I might like a bit more contrast though.

Hysterical!! Love the processing, though I do agree that a big more contrast is worth a try.

Awesome. But it's kinda ordinary AND unique, right?

I love the idea...so clever. And I really like the processing, although it is just a touch too green for my taste. Still, I love it!

    Thank you everyone!
I was going for that vintage feel and the glazed out look/smile of a Stepford wife. All I needed was a thought bubble:) "I can't wait for my man to come home so I can hand him his whiskey and slippers and feed him his favorite mac and cheese".

At home I felt like I nailed the processing--faded etc. to match the mental image I have of the old ads, but here at work it looks different. Neither monitor is calibrated.

Also I stumbled on an EXIF issue. I noticed the date is not there!
Thankfully I still have the shots on my memory card and so I will go home again and download once more and hopefully figure it out in a timely fashion. This time it's not my camera but LR3, or maybe the card reader.
I hit something on LR3 and it hasn't been the same since.
If not I will go straight to Olympus Masters to download, but I don't know if I can replicate the processing. We shall see.

    Thanks for the CC guys!

I agree with StueveShots - on my monitor it looks a little more greenish than I would expect for the style - really just in the shadows - the skin tones look good, but like you said, the monitor can make a lot of difference. Heck, I can see a difference in the lightness/darkness of photos depending on if I'm sitting up straight or slouching! Otherwise, the processing looks cool & the poses & expressions are great!

Thank you all for your comments.
I was able to download a version with dates on to LR3--I tried to process the same as before and couldn't! I don't remember my workflow as I normally just eyeball things.

    This is the new version

Very creative! I prefer the original as the later one doesn't have as much vintage feel to it.

I am betting Sean would allow a linked to your original with the EXIF. Check with him.

    Liz,
If you processed it in LR3, you should be able to retrace your steps on the original shot by looking at the "history" down at the bottom of the left panel in the development module.

    It's a great concept.

Doesn't hurt to ask -thanks Donna.
But I will give it ago again this afternoon to see if I can achieve the same look--it's a good learning experience.

    Thank you Patti--
I downloaded to LR3 and processed half of it there but finished processing in Picnik (it's actually where I achieved the tone I was looking for).
But I will do as you said, maybe I missed something in LR3. thank you.

Jumping into the thread a little late but...

Let me just say... clap.gif ... for the overall impression. What a nice combination of composition and processing for the vintage look. FWIW I'm seeing the green cast on my monitor as well. Then again, it's not yet calibrated either (maybe today). As I do more and more online, I'm beginning to see the full extent of the calibration problem. Even with a monitor that's correctly calibrated, it's apparent that the view most non-professionals (including, I imagine, many who vote in DSS Challenges) get of online photos is a crap shoot.

All that said, I continue to appreciate your work, Liz. You have a unique style that tends to be anything but ordinary.

    lol! I missed this comment.
So I dug the pineabpple out for the shoot--I've had it way up high on a shelf and forgot about it. Turns out, it's a McCoy as in the real "McCoy"--who knew?! :)

Thanks all--I have uploaded my image to the gallery--I reworked it and got pretty close to the original, enough that I was happy with it.

I think you nailed what you were going for, Liz. I like it. Between the two, I think I like the first one better.
