This is my first time posting in a forum ever! I hope I do this right.

A couple of Downy Woodpeckers at my bird feeder. I am curious to know if I'm on the right track as far as composition etc... Just learning the ins and outs of SLR photography.
Thanks for any and all advice and comments.

Welcome to Dgrin wave.gif and you did it fine.

Your comp is pretty good here. I would have cropped it or composed it with the subject more in the lower third of frame right.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Not bad. :D

Birds are a very challenging subject. I learned via an absorbtion process of reading here and searching the web. There is a lot more to it than meets the mind's eye. So, have patience and learn bit by bit. The most important thing is to keep shooting and learn by your own mistakes.

Thank you all. I am nothing if not persistent and I do appreciate, and try to learn from any advice. :-) I imagine my lack of a great lens will slow me down some. I have pretty well decided that I will do mostly "scenes" with birds as a focal point...does this make sense?

Thank you. Glad you like it. :-) I did try my hand at cropping differently as Harry and Jeff mentioned but I don't see how to post it here to see if it is closer to correct.
