As the great ice storm of 2011 was coming down everything started going crazy and this run was my first opportunity to see what mayhem was ensuing. The eeriest part of approaching this fire was listening to the trees & power lines loading up under the pressure of the ice.

For me, it's an interesting shot if only to peak my curiosity at what kind of image could have been captured of the firetruck and the bright lights reflecting up in the trees/ice over the truck. Maybe what it would have looked like if you moved towards the parked car about 3/4 the distance and shot back at the truck and up????? That's some very interesting lighting in the bare tree branches.

When it comes to scene access with this particular fire dept is kind of restricted unlike some the others I work with so for the most part I take what they give. The lighting is provide by a product mounted on the roof of the trucks called "night scan" which is developed and sold by the Will Burt Company. The overall affect is caused when the light collides with the ice on the tree limbs.

Thanks for the explanation of the light source. I'm still thinking a totally reflective or back-lit set of icicles from the trees via those lights would have been interesting.

Was the house fire contained to within, or was it some other call? Most of your shots have great fire to them.

This incident was a dryer fire in the rear of the structure and I wanted to move around a little bit more for those back lit icicles it just wasn't meant to happen on that run. If you keep a close eye I'll create another post later this morning with images from another incident that same night that should be interesting.
