A photo from a recent High School Nordic ski race here in Minnesota. These guys are at about the 3.5k mark in a 5k freestyle (skate) conference championship pursuit (first in wins).

    Where's the first guy's pole, or is he so strong he doesn't need one? He appears to be skating. The 2 guys behind him have them. Maybe I'm missing something since I'm not a ski type person.

    His poles are actually directly behind his hands in the shot above.
