I usually love your work, but these look like you pushed the crop a little too far. There is some noticeable loss of detail and resolution that does not appear to be either lens or motion blur.

Thanks, the conditions were very tough so I made the best of it. Here is a crop you may like better it's as far out as I'm comfortable with.. Also the original shot.
the difference between out of camera and final pic is incredible. i like the looser framing. gives you a better of idea of how gnarly it was out there.
Wow--difficult lighting and mist...Agree with the last couple of posts: the looser crop really shows off the context of the surfer, and is more interesting and pleasing to my eye on all fronts. I love the textures and contrasts of the water. Good work!
In short, he really tries to capture the context of the subject, not just closeups of facial expressions and lots of water. I try to do the same in my watersports shots. Water, lighting, and textures really add to my enjoyment of any given pic in these kinds of sports.

I think it is the resizing as with your gear I can't imagine it is anything else but they don't look fully sharp.
I'm here to learn so please feel free to give me constructive criticism to help me become the photographer I desire to be.

+1 on the looser crop showing more of the conditions.
Nice subject matter! They have more ballz than I do!
I have a friend who shoots professionally--mostly expedition kayaking--and I have learned a great deal about composition and context looking at his pix: http://www.kayakphoto.com/darinmcquoid/dinkeycreek.html
