:rofl - Four years ago I shot the parents' wedding. Last year I shot her first birthday party. Saturday I shot her second.

It's not working for me BD - the shadowy arm, the nose on the left, the purple gut...

I like what your going for here. Although I don't understand the connection of the title. I like how you are conveying movement which makes me feel like she is a happy youngster. Keep it up. :)

... not the color, especially with the reds at the edges. Is it fair to assume that she has her daddy's tummy (behind her)?

I love history and connections. I have a shoot scheduled, imminently, with a 5-gen family - love this stuff.

I understand the sentiments, here - but BD, this shot definitely does not represent your best work.

I appreciate the negative feedback - seriously. This is a classic example of being our own worst editors, and why we all benefit from sharing photos. To answer various questions and explain what I was seeing - Yes, that is her Dad behind her in purple. I liked the softness and motion, and thought it conveyed the fact that she's really on her two feet, constantly moving now, compared to last year. On the other hand, as Damon noted - pink and purple? What was I thinking? This is probably a case of my doing precisely what I warn my students not to do - I was thinking that things I saw, felt, heard, were captured in the pixels - when in fact all that was captured in the pixels is precisely what is on the screen.

    So thanks again.

Exactly what I was thinking, BD...and I see it here more often than not...and am guilty of the same, less now than before, I hope...letting emotional attachment to my work block out reality.

Getting beyond the emotional attachment to my work was my biggest step forward in defining the quality of my work, who I am as a photographer, and where I am going as a photographer.

I am often asked what the difference is between me, as a photographer, and someone else with a DSLR. My pat answer is that in most circumstances, I know what a good photograph is supposed to look like...when I'm taking it, and during and after post processing. It's the difference between, oh and oh boy.

BD thanks for taking such an active roll as PJ''s Artist in Residence. I don't always agree with your commentary...but, then that's life.
Remember, no one may want you to take pictures, but they all want to see them.

Thanks for the 'thanks' Ed. And as to not always agreeing - things would be really dull if we all agreed all the time. mwink.gif

Gonna be a contrarian. Perhaps its the grandmother in me, but I like the feel of this one. It would have been a better photograph if everything but the child had been more or less sharp, but it made me feel her energy and I'll bet her parents (and grandparents) like it. As for pink and purple, I thought they went together.
