"The Lonely Road"

Taken just after sunrise on Wednesday morning at the San Luis NWR. There was too much fog to see any Elk, but the fog made for some nice morning photos. Since it's easier for me to shoot inside the car, I pulled the car sideways on the road and reclined the seat back to take the shot.

I shot in color and converted using Channel Mixer in CS2. Viewing it at work, it seems much darker than my home monitor. I'm still trying to get the hang of B/W conversions, so I'm open for honest critiques...

I like it. But like Yuri said, maybe a tad more contrast.

I'm not sure I'd add more contrast. I'm afraid you'd lose the nice grey shading of the trees in the center of the frame that add depth to the image. Worth trying out and playing around with, I guess.

What I'd do is crop the shot to make it more of a panorama looking pic. There's a lot of black at the bottom of the frame and "narrower" view might be more appealing.

All in all I really like your view of this scene. It's very pleasant to look at - good job thumb.gif .

I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

The contrast is fine. The thing I find it lacking is actual Detail.

    Great shot either way though.

Great capture! I think the contrast is fine as is. I would straighten the shot a bit though and crop out some of the bottom. Here's an example:

I like the pano crop, but I don't know if I like it better than the original. headscratch.gif

    Thanks again!

I tend to agree with you Mike. The pano is nice, but I think that the darken foreground shows just enough detail to add depth to the photo and the loneliness of the road. At any rate, I go for the full composition and like it. I do agree with Erich on the slight lean to the left as you look at the photo.

I think that's why I like the original, because of the extrta foreground. You are right, I think it is tilted just a bit...probably due to the fact that I was almost laying down on the reclined seat to take the shot and never noticed the lean on the picture until now. uhoh2.gif
