Well, I had this long post all typed up in here and then forgot to enable popups for dgrin in Chrome and stupidly did and lost my whole post.. So I'll retype a little later when I get some motivation. Basically my main body (5d MkII) and 2 canon flashes are in being repaired so I was stuck using an original 5D and Sunpak 120J along with a canon 580EX last night at the game. What a difference a few years of technology makes. AI focus tracking and even the difference of .8FPS shooting is quite noticeable. To go from 3.8FPS to 3FPS seems downright sluggish to say the least!

Thanks. Processing the Finals from tonight... Just been lazy and slacking off since I got back.

Kind of the point I was going to make in my post..

Ambient there was about 2/3 under 1/200 @ 2.8- 1600. Had flashes both set to 1/200 @ 4 - 1600 which tonight I metered at 4.0-6 on my seconic. Still, shooting at 4.0 didn't kill anything and I think it worked...

FYI, this is with both lights going off.. You can tell the lights are barely noticeable, more so at the baseline, by the time you hit the top of they key, you can't see much... Except in camera!

Are your lights at the top of the bleachers or on the guardrail? How many rows up do you clamp your lights?

13ft light stands. The far one is blocked by the shot clock.. it's to the right of the bleachers across the court from this shot, base is partly protected by a big old trashcan (you can see the round one down there right below the basket..). So nobody goes and "oopses" my lights over.

Also, if I placed them at the top of the bleachers, I'd have to crank the power up since my distance is doubling. Key is to get them close enough to use at 1/8 or less power so they recycle quickly. News guy mounts his 1/2 way up the side on the rails of the bleachers. I use lightstands because at PACKED games people tend to stand in front of the lights...
