Rotating panoramas

A friend of mine sent me this link. When you click on the photo you can rotate 360 degrees. It's fascinating. Any idea how many photos you'd have to stitch together (and HOW???) to create this? You can also rotate up to the sky and down to the ground.

    The rotatable photo is a QTVR. Basically a video of a panoramic (in all directions) photo. The number of shots needed would depend on how much detail you want. (whether you are zoomed in or zoomed out)

    The are various programs that can stitch the files together in this format for you. One that I have for stitching panoramics that also does this is PTGui.
