Looking to buy a P&S

I'd like to pick up a decent P&S camera to keep with me at all times. Any suggestions? My other gear is all Canon stuff but that doesn't matter as far as this goes.

    Canon 7D, 450D, 50mm 1.8, 50mm 1.2, Mp-e 65mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L USM, 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM, Canon 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM, 580exII, some sigma lenses:D

    Now all I have to do is find one at a decent price.
    There are many times when it's just not convenient to lug the big DSLR, lenses etc. and inevitably, that's when I see something worthy.

    Panasonic LX5? A little bigger than an S95 but still small enough for your purposes (depending on purse/pocket size, I guess)...

    Since you said brand doesn't really matter take a look at the Nikon P7000. I've been using one for a couple of months now. It's like the G12 in that it's a bit large for a shirt pocket.

    Samsung TL500. Great picture quality, shoots raw, lots of manual controls. The more I shoot with it, the more I like it. And the price is right at ~$300.

    Only downside: I don't think think that Apple Aperture supports raw for the TL500. But possibly you can convert to .dng and open the raw files that way. ne_nau.gif.

    OS X doesn't yet support the TL500:

    I use P&S a lot in active situation like the mountains, kayaking etc. I have had the S90 which is almost the same as the newer S95, and now the G11. The S90 and now the S95 is amazing for such a small camera, and has one major feature that makes this desirable - f2.0! Below is a picture I took with the S90. It is however a little "delicate" for some reason, so if you tend to be a little hard on your cameras you may want to look at the G11 or G12. Somehow I damaged my S90 withing 4 months of owning it and had to send it in for loyalty program replacement.

    The G12 is larger, heavier, has a swivel screen, and feels more like a real camera in many ways. It is very solid and I think would not get damaged as easily as the S95. The G11/12 does not have the F2.0 aperture however.

    Thanks so much. I read the entire thread and it looks like the S95 is an amazing piece of gear.

    As a result of that and the discussion here I'm now several hundred dollars poorer and the camera is on its way.rolleyes1.gif

    I have a Fujifilm S1800. Cheap, but takes really good pictures. Its technically a bridge camera, but basically a point and shoot.

    Thanks all. I ended up with the Canon S95. Seems like a sweet camera and once I get the battery charged (just arrived) and play with it a bit, I'll post a few pics.
