These are between 90% and 100% crops using the Canon nFD 300mm F4.0L on the Panasonic GH1 (so, all manual focusing without IS):

Yeah, he's about the size of a typical sparrow but with a longer beak.

Yeah, there's several different kinds of fishers. I dunno all the types but so far I've seen this type (obviously), a White & Black one with some red markings, and one that's grey and white but with a yellow head. The "Common Kingfisher" (Alcedo atthis) in my photos are in other parts of the world I think but I dunno where. One of those bird pages would show it I guess.
