Hey Y'all,

Just had an incredibly crappy week. I woke early this AM with a bad cold and in a total funk so I figured that instead of staying home and feeling miserable I would go down to the wetlands and feel miserable.

I spent three and half hours at the wetlands and shot around 10 gigs of pictures and felt fine and at peace.

Now that I'm home again I'm feeling crappy of course but those few hours at the wetlands were sweet.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Wow, fabulous set, Harry. I imagine you felt a heck of a lot better shooting these, and probably still do when you go back to look at them. The variety of birds you get out there never ceases to amaze me. What's that commorant-looking sort of bird in 4 and 5?

That first one looks like a companion shot to one I took last weekend at Bosque. I posted it here. http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=190638

    Feel better soon.

Thanks Joel, the bird in 4 & 5 is an anhinga. I love getting silhouette captures. Bosque provides lots of opps for silhouette images as your capture demonstrates. I've just started processing the images from todays shoot. Got quite a few keepers.

Harry, my Grandmothers favorite saying was 'if you are going to be miserable, you might as well be miserable having fun!" ;) It has stuck with me all my life, and I do the same as you, this week too with a whopper cold! lol. [actually I shot wildlife all year through 3 surgeries, 6 biopsies, chemo, radiation for 35 days. neuropathy, and my Dad dying! I kid you not, my wildlife outings saved me big time, great healing moments!]

OH MY GOODNESS!! If this is you in the wetlands feeling miserable, I think I need to book a flight the next time I feel miserable... even if I only got one shot 1/2 as decent as your first shot, I'd be in hog heaven!!! These are really stunning. I hope you're feeling better and I'm thankful you have the wetlands as a "feeling-crappy" diversion!!!

Thanks Ric. That limpkin was really funny. He was about 2-3 yards from my car, way too close to get his whole body in the frame. So I drove up a bit to get some distance from him. He would follow me and keep the same distance as before. So I drove further up again and the damn limpkin just came up on the car again.

Thanks Linda, I have always found going out and doing some photography in the early AM when its quiet and before the crowds come in to be good for the soul.

Thanks Glenn. We never made it to the Big Easy. We were supposed to leave on Sunday. On Saturday my younger borther in NY suffered a massive heart attack. We cancelled the NO trip and rushed up to NY. My brother paased away on Tuesday. :cry

Thanks, it was just good luck that morning that the wetlands had some many good photo ops. I had no time to think about anything except how to capture the shot.

rolleyes1.gifI had the same experience with those turkey shots I'm sure you have seen. Plus I had a pooch that didn't think much of the turkey growling in my ear. So, like you, I settled for the head shots.:D

Thanks Jeff, I was real lucky that morning. Both the anhingas and the GBHs were flying for nesting material from their nests to the road where I had parked my car. They each made repeated landing and take offs just a few yards from me.
