Boatbill Herons

I don't think that I've posted this yet even though it was taken almost a year ago. In Belize. We were on a walk looking for Crocodiles, this guy here to be exact:

And the herons were in the trees above his pond. Fun birds to watch.

    I've never seen them either. Almost alien looking. They have an eye on you though. Cool shots.

    Likewise - a new one for me too.

    Having been watching some local herons going thro' their annual nest DIY routine with branches / twigs etc - makes me wonder what sort of nests these make, as their bills are rather different - to say the least.

    Pic looks a bit washed out to me, btw.
