Canon 10D
1/60 sec
ISO 400
F/2.8

This was from one of the weddings I did on labor day weekend. The bride wore them for the ceremony, and promptly removed them for the rest of the night.

Cool the selective coloring was what i was worried about. I think it's more effective that straight color or straight b&w. At least for this shot.

It should make a nice addition to the wedding album. thumb.gif

...and hats off to all photographers who have what it takes to shoot weddings. I've had my fill of wedding directors and mother's of the brides. 1drink.gif

I'm not a fan of selective color, but I'd say that for the occasion, the context and the story behind it, very appropriate and a nice shot, to boot!

I'm with David: if someone would have asks me if I like selective color, I say no. But in some cases, like in this one, it works well. Nice shot.

i have a question for everyone, what is so bad about selective coloring? i'm not being defensive or anything, I just wanted to hear people's different perspectives.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with selective coloring. It's all a matter of a very subjective thing called "taste" . If you like it, you should keep using it. Personally, I don't like it that much, since I think it's a bit of a gimmick. Just like I never much liked colored and starry filters back when using film. But I'm well aware that it's just my personal preference, and sometimes I see really nice examples that show even me that it has its place at times...

Thanks for the comments guys. Especially the nice comments from those of you who aren't selective coloring fans. I think it has it's place but it can sometimes get used too much. The reason I used it on this shot was to make a point of the shoes being left behind. Glad to see it worked for everyone.

    Hi Gary,
I'm one of those that usually doesn't like the use of selective color. Not because of it being selective color, but usually how it is done. I have seen only a few shots that I think have used selective coloring to their advantage, and this is one of themclap.gif. The selective color really brings out the subject (shoes) and helps make them seem forlorn against the background. I think the bride will really appreciate this shot and it's creativitythumb.gif.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Chris

Brides spend quite some time picking out their shoes and their gowns. This shot is an excellent B&W, that uses selective color to really display the bride's choice. I'll bet the bride really will apperciate this shot over the years. Nicely done Gary.

It would be interesting to hear some of the distaff sides opinions about this shot also. Come on gals!

Nice - I like this. It does tell a story - moreso I think with the selective color because of the emphasis it forces on the shoes.
