Hello....newbie here....and very new to this as i can't get this figured out...Just joined, or should say doing the trial method first. Have loaded a few pics and have been trying to set the pricing. Have emailed back an forth with support but am still not having any luck. I am following the instructions...but for some reason as an owner i can see the new pricing, but when i view as a visitor, the pricing goes back to the default. I have saved, waited several min to make sure it is saved. Also, the first time i loaded my pics, i was seeing that my pics were to small. So I reloaded to the largest that i could (1600 pixels) and it still says that they are to small. What am i doing wrong? I am getting frustrated...i work during the day, and can jump on here maybe a few times to work on this. Work will be primarily done in the evenings. I was so anxious to do this but am slowly losing hope.....Can someone help me? thanks

Check your pricing when you are truly logged out. Don't use "visitor view". That's a simulation and is not perfect. I find it easiest to just use a second browser to look at my site that is never logged in (since I use Firefox normally, I use Safari to check the logged out view).

What says your images are too small? Min pixel size for various print sizes is here. 1600 pixels on the long side is a pretty small image - that's probably only about 1.5 megapixels when most cameras these days are at least 6MP and often 10-12MP.

Hello ! Thanks for your help. I believe i got the pricing fixed.

As far as the pics go, when I go into another browser and look at the pics, click on buy, underneath the size, it says: This photo is too small to buy this item. I work in Picasa, and when i export my photos, I change the image size to the 1600 pixels. I can leave the pic the original size also. Should I do this instead??? thanks for your help. I truely appreciate it.

See help page at http://www.smugmug.com/help/print-quality for info on minimum resolutions for each print size.

Also see the section "the file size is huge... tell me how" on this page - http://www.smugmug.com/help/speed.

I still need help...i went in and downloaded 3 pics to their original size. Had them on there and just downloaded again. I guess i just don't understand...i have read the image/resolution page. Thought I had done what was correct and even when i log off or go to another browser and look, they still say too small to buy. Someone want to adopt me for a few days so I can do this? Maybe I am just making a mountain out of a mo hill or something. But anyway, its not working for me.

Please add a link to your site in your signature so it is always available to the helpers here. Click You! on the navbar above, then Edit Signature.

Once a link is available someone can help understand what is happening.

How large are the originals that you are uploading?

Denise, Signature is here....need to check on the size of the originals....am at work at the moment.

Am i going crazy.....i just went in and looked and my pics and i don't see where it says they are to small to buy. They mainly say, will need cropping at checkout. After adjustments are made does it usually take maybe 1-2 hrs to see the change?

Do you see anything else that I need to change, improve etc??

No, it shouldn't take that long to make adjustments. If you are uploading new photos it will depend on the upload queue - still shouldn't take that long.

Some of your photos are still really tiny, and some are large enough to buy all sizes. Easiest thing to do is to delete the photos and re-upload the larger files.

You have Originals enabled. That means that no one needs to purchase your photos - they can grab them for free. See ORIGINALS = a gateway to free photos, & right click protection is NOT PROTECTION.

I would recommend showing your galleries on your homepage rather than just showing the recent photos. See http://www.smugmug.com/help/homepage-boxes.

Wow....I am beginning to feel like I have jumped into something I shouldn't have. Their trial period of 14 days needs to be longer....lol. I have deleted and downloaded maybe 4 times already. Talk about frustrating, confusing & starting to believe that this is a venture I should have walked right by and never given a thought to. I feel like I am racing against a time clock.

Maybe I should delete everything. Load maybe 5 pics. Get them to where they should be and go from there. Just afraid that by the 13th day...I still won't have the knack of this yet...

I have 10 pics on that i think have the pricing, and the size is ok. Would you mind please verifying this for me ? I will also work on the Homepage idea. I have many more pics to add, but want to make sure that I understand what i am doing first, before I add more pics. I appreciate your help and suggestions.

Any thing else you would change, add or delete? thanks

Do you realize that you can verify the pricing yourself? Use another browser where you are not logged in to your smug site. For example, I use Firefox logged in and I verify my site on IE8 and Chrome, both logged out.

Suggestions? You apparently didn't read the link I provided in my post earlier - your Originals are available for viewing, and that means that people can grab the full resolution photos for free.

Denise ...I did read all your suggestions and links....evidently i am not understanding what you mean, or where i need to go to to take care of my originals that are available for viewing....I'm sorry...i do open IE and Firefox and when i was in the one that I was not logged into it wouldn't allow me to do a file, save as......I'm sorry. I guess i need to have this step spelled out to me a little more clearer....Where exactly do i need to go to to take care of this???????

I just went in under Security and Privacy and clicked on Medium, it was on Original. Is this where you were referring to?

File... save as... and right click are not the only ways to grab the photo. Anything viewed on the screen can be saved to the local computer from the browser cache.

Yes, that is what I was referring to.

I would recommend one of the larger sizes - any one smaller than Original. Medium does give you more protection, but you are severely limiting the viewing experience. Look at your gallery on a large screen monitor with the browser maximized. If you were shooting something like youth sports where people tend to grab photos then medium makes sense. But honestly, I would recommend setting the largest size to either x2 or x3 large.
