Some shots taken with the FD 300mm f/2.8L (on the GH1 camera)

I think surfing is what this lens was made for. Seriously, the designer must have been a surfer and wanted the ultimate lens to fit the ultimate sport! These are all wide open and I thought the lens was so good and so colorful that I shot small low quality JPegs on my GH1 - something I usually never do cuz it sucks. :D

All shot at F/2.8, ISO 100, and are 80~90% crops, Some sharpening but no other processing. :ivar Fluorite ROCKS!!!

And here's a little comp... The real reason guys surf and of course why you clicked... ;) :

Sorry, I thought you were saying these were heavily cropped

Oh, just the cropping? You wanna see more water? I'm not understanding. But those are the Small jpegs from the camera so there's almost no cropping. Just mostly scaling - "80%-90%" as specified. So almost full sized as well. Close anyway. :)

Those do look great. I love the color in the wave faces.

    Thanks Kurt!

Yeah, the Sun in back like that was making so really beautiful effects.

A little later in the day it was adding sparkle highlights and very interesting bloom too.

Nice lighting, nice action... a bit on the soft side though and a good bit of jpeg artifacts around the edges. Maybe try closing down the sharpening radius to 0.5 pixels in CS5 with threshold to 0 or 1.

    Good tips! Thanks!

I almost never shoot lowest-quality smallest-size Jpegs like this so I dunno how to process for that optimally yet. Your advice seems a good starting point tho - and appreciated!
