Lost lens has been found!

In November I did a shoot in Sonora, Ca and lost my Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX Full Frame Fisheye. I was hating life, $900 down the drain.

The other day I get a call from the property owner saying he found my lens! He was out walking in the snow and thought it was a cup holder.

I get the lens back, AF doesn't work. Cycled through the range in MF and after that the AF works perfect! I try to take a couple of shots, aperature diaphram freezes in place somewhere around f11. Again, cycle through aperature range from f/2.8-f/22 and it unfreezes the third time!

There was no visible condensation or other nature buildup inside the glass. I took a couple of sky shots at f/22 and the pictures are still crystal clear! Tested the long and short focus on AF and it's smoothe as can be.

To my eyes and ears, there is nothing wrong with the lens!

Not bad for being outside in the rain and snow for 4 months!

Hooray! Maybe contact Sigma telling them the story of the lost lens and how well it held up being outside all this time? Might turn into something even better.

    Hello Kyle,<?xml:namespace prefix = o />
Great story, were very glad your happy with our products. Frequently when a lens is exposed to such extreme conditions it will work for a short period of time and then fail, if you would send it to us we would gladly assess the lens and let you know the shape its in.
    Yours truly,

Amazing story! A new folk legend! Warmed my heart! I'm happy for you.

I had a scare in a similar situation, I put my bag with a lens in it down in some long grass out in the paddocks, and wandered around for half an hour. Suddenly realised I couldn't pinpoint where I had put the bag down. Panic! I found it though.
