Love, Laugh Learn

It's been several weeks since I posted anything. Been out playing in the snow and on the ice.

I was asked to do a project for a Washington, DC private school's fund raising auction. The motto of the three sixth-grade classes this year is "Love, Laugh, Learn." I did a set of the three words for each of the classes. Dodge-Chrome ( a highly regarded print shop in DC) is doing the printing and mounting pro-bono. The sets will be auctioned off at the annual affair, which usually turns into a bidding war between the highly competetive parents of the kids.

I spent some time way up in a cherry picker, and quite a few hours in LR and PS, but I'm happy with the results. Here are three of the nine images.

My marketing materials will be prominently displayed at the auction. I'm hoping for some portrait work from it.

Great results. Was the body shape thing your idea? You must have had fun way up on that cherry picker. Hope it brings you some well deserved new clients

Would be great to see as a mural in a school hall/corridor!

I wish I could take credit for the shapes. No, a couple of the class moms had found some diagrams that they used. They planned very carefully so all the kids in each class were fairly represented. The moms and one teacher did all the "cat herding" to form the letters. I actually needed 30 individual good shots to get all the letters. Once I had the letters (on green chroma-key) I did the Photoshop editing, then merged them into the words for final use.

The cherry picker didn't frighten me 'till I got down and read the safety placard that warned very sternly "Do not raise the platform unless all outriggers are fully deployed!" Crap!! What outriggers?!?!? eek7.gif

Very cool. Looks like the kids are having a blast.

Oh yeah. That was perhaps the best part. Sixth graders are about the last year where they're mostly children. By next year, there'd be all this sexual tension stuff going on, and they'd be all self-conscious

This is awesome! Love it! They do look like they are having a ton of fun!

There are a couple of girls that have a bit of a green cast on their hair... I wonder if you might want to fix it before you go to print! (Especially "v") Should be an easy fix with the eyedropper + brush>color tool, especially at that distance.

This was my first use of a green chroma key background. Unfortunately, we had to use it on the floor and have the kids lying down on it. Yeah, there was a ridiculous amount of spill, and what you see is the results of hours of work in PS5. I just got tired.

Thank you again my friends!! It was really fun work. I think I already have a book jacket portrait project for an author whose child attends the school.

    Holy Cow!!
One of the sixth grade teachers texted me from the auction dinner tonight and described what she referred to as a "feeding frenzy" surrounding the prints. Later she texted that the three individual sets had brought in a MINIMUM of $2250. Apparently, there's enough demand that they are going to allow multiple winners AT THE WINNING BID PRICE!! So, my stuff may have gone for as much as $4500.00. That is effing crazy folks. :crazy Just shows what a dangerous combination competitive personalities and free liquor can be.
