Before I go and try to re-shoot this within this time frame (*edit:It is an old pic and I can't use it), I thought I would post this pic I took over a year ago.
Not sure if it will work as well without leaves on the trees... but then it might be better.
I would also need to adjust to make the tables more of a focus.
What do you think? Worth a try or dump it and move on to other ideas?

If the house with the lights in the bg isn't there, I think it would be great. This photo draws my eyes to the lights in the house, tho.

I think it looks like a site to revisit. The tables could make for a great subject.

I think it has potential, I like the way the light is hitting the tables, it brings out the repeating shapes, but agree that my eye is being drawn to the lights in the building as well. Go back and try from different angles.

    Thanks everyone.
Yes, the lights were meant to be a part of this photo, but I knew I would have to adjust the view to make the tables the focus. The lights are from a gym on campus so they are going to stay on. It may be tricky as the light that is lighting the tables is just to the left and VERY bright. I'll have to hit an "in between."
My next trick is walking onto campus and then hoping no one is sitting around at those tables. When I took this I was with a group that was shooting the College campus (Austin College) so I didn't feel odd doing it. :D Just another one of those things Dgrin will help me to overcome maybe.
I have a couple of other ideas, but haven't figured out how to shoot them and actually make it look challenge worthy.

    Different Ideas?
I haven't had time to get over and re shoot the table at the college but did get a few when I was out a couple of days ago. I can't decide if these work or not. Concrete seems simple... but when you start looking for the right concrete it's not so easy. ne_nau.gif
I am also going down to Dallas Saturday to the zoo, so I have a feeling I will find things on the way there that may work better.

#4 says CONCRETE! but that is all. Nice texture, focus, light, etc.

I like the original shot without the sky, or #3 - something about the bare tree sticking out above the table draws me in - the weeds in front don't do anything for me though. I think the top half of #3 makes me think of a concrete mimic of a hill with a lone tree in the distance - with a funny title? You might play with some different crops.

I agree with Lillian. The original is my favorite so far.

Maybe try #3 with an angle that cuts out the weeds and has more of the tree, so it looks like the tree is growing out of the table.

Thanks for the help. I really like #1 too, but I am not going to get the chance to re-shoot it and that was not shot in the challenge period.

Last two here... A trip to the Dallas zoo yesterday and there were so many things... and most I saw from the DART Rail and were impossible to shoot at those speeds, at least for me.

These two were in the zoo. How about either of these. My eyes hurt from looking at pics for hours on end since yesterday. I can't judge anymore.

#1 shows promise, particularly if you crop out the house, sky, the two lamps and right side of the photo. Of the new shots, I am rather partial to the palm impressions. It is a neat abstract.

I like #2 with the water with maybe a shorter crop and color correcting to make the concrete more grayish... and #2 Palm Impressions because it's just more artistic looking to me. :)

I played with the Palm leaf and have come up with something I like. I think I will enter this unless someone has some brilliant last minute idea for me.

Donna, I like your most recent rendition of the palm leaf and the table with the weeds in front. (I hadn't actually noticed the tree "growing out it" until someone else mentioned it, but thought darkening the sky would complement the texture and color of the cement table nicely.) Good luck with whichever you choose!
