Went out with a couple of ideas, and ended up shooting something completely different. Went looking for grafiti, and ended up shooting the floating concrete dock at the Tauranga Marina. Comments on the following photos would be appreciated:

Shooting was a bit difficult, being round the wooden piles - pleased now brought the Canon 60D which has the flip LCD screen.
Thank you

I like #2 - like the colors in the concrete mimicking the algae & I like the shrimp in the background, even though it's in the background - nice little catch there! Wonder what it would look like with the top & bottom cropped about an inch or so, so it's more of a landscape instead of portrait orientation - the blurriness on the top & bottom to me takes away from the image (even though I understand - the dof & water movement - there's going to be some blurriness, just needs minimized). I also think the orange bug(?) is a bit distracting & would probably ps it out.

They're both really nice. I like #1 the best. The cement is more interesting; decorative.

I really like #2 and the concept is interesting. How about a shot with just a little of the 'out of water' and the rest below to focus on that more? Just a suggestion?!?! ne_nau.gif

I like that idea. In the current crop, the water surface is nearly dividing the picture in half. A little different balance would bring more energy, I think.

Honestly? The colors are great, could use more saturation, but the subject? It makes me think of a severed something...it's not appealing to my eyes...but I think the area bears some playing with...

Thank you for the comments. Have tried editing #2, adjusted the saturation and crop - would have liked to leave the shrimp in but felt better with a tighter crop. Does this appeal better?

Though on this bigger image concrete now looking a bit unconcrete-like?

I like the new version! The colors pop & the the crop is much better - I like the way the concrete fills more of the shot & it looks more detailed. Agree about the shrimp, but some things just don't make the final cut. :)
