On our recent trip through Arizona, I made a point to take a driving path that led us past Agathla Peak. I was lucky enough to have some dramatic clouds around the first day. We happened to go past the next day as well, when the clouds were not as plentiful, but still added to the shot I think.

I'm always looking to get my shots without things in the way such as the fences. In this case however, I wasn't sure about turning down any of the side roads behind the fences. It looked like private land, so I didn't want to upset anyone. I could have just walked up to the fence and shot over it, but I guess I was just being lazy that day

Schmoo, there are many of these formations in the SW. Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong, I understand they are the remnants of a volcano core of long ago, where the softer outside has eroded away and what you see is the harder inner layers. A bit more Monolithic to me... Hills... too wimpy, these are grand in stature.
