Columbia River Gorge and Hood River

Here are some pictures I took on our drive along Columbia River Gorge.

It's a beautful drive...lined by gorgeous trees:

Here's Multnomah Falls...it is one of the tallest all-season waterfalls in the US:

The wind blows fiercely through the gorge coming from the Pacific ocean. That's why this is one of the most popular areas for windsurfing. Here's a shot I took at the Viento State Park:

Hood River is a nice town along the Gorge. There are several wineries and fruit stands along the way. Here's a view looking back toward the Gorge.

Cheers,

Erich

    Very nice. What beautiful country.

They all seem just a touch too yellow.

Looks like I overdid it on the warming filter. Is this better?

I think the waterfall is better.

The board...I'm not sure. The one looks too yellow to me, but then when I look at the new version, I kinda miss it....

I guess this is where creative lisence comes in, eh?

Yeah...I know what you mean. I definitely didn't like getting rid of the yellow on the last one with the horse.

Thanks for the tip though. I think the waterfall turned out nicer with less yellow.

    Hi Erich,
Nice shots. I was up there on Labor Day weekend while visiting my wifes brother in Portland. He took us for a ride, and what a beautiful ride it was. We picked blackberries along the roads and train tracks until we were purple. I haven't worked any of the shots yet, but took some interesting ones from below "Bridge of the Gods" as cars were going overhead. You've done a wonderful job capturing the feel of the area. Coming from the desert, the green is almost overwhelming to the senses. Really nice job of the waterfall, I don't think any of mine came out nearly as nice.

Thanks for sharing and bringing me back to a picturesque spot,
    Chris

I especially like teh last one Erich. The colors are very unique. I have never seen a sky quite that color blue before. Well done and thanks for sharing a part of the US that I must visit one day.

Lovely shots, particularly the waterfall. It must be amazing to stand on thet bridge with the water rushing past.

I actually like the original waterfall you posted. The picture seem to stand out more.

I'm with the others; #'s 2 & 4 are superb images. thumb.gif Perhaps a little too much saturation on #4, but all real nice.

Thanks Chris. Thanks for the comments. It is a very nice area. Really above anything I expected. I only wish I had been able to spend more time there. Look forward to seeing your pictures when you get them done!

Thanks DJ. It is a beautiful area and I hope to be able to return someday. But, it may be difficult to do so at least I have the pictures to remind me.

It was nice to stand on the bridge. The only bad thing is that it gets pretty crowded with visitors...but hey, I'm sure they were thinking the same thing about crazy guys like me taking pictures of everything. Here's a shot looking down from the bridge.

Thanks Adam. If I look at the picture by itself without any other context I like the original better. But there is a yellow tint to it and it can look exagerated at times. It's amazing how the brain adjusts for what we see depending on context.

Thanks David. I did push it a bit with the colors. Trying to get that Velvia look. May have overdone it a tad there.

Thanks Phil. I appreciate your comments. I've picked up a few things here and there on PP and I'm trying to put them to good use.
