G'day Guys!
First just want to say in just over a year very happy indeed with SmugMug..great stuff.
Ok recently i have been uploading quite a few Hi ISO images i have taken over the last year or so.
I have found that it seems that during compression a large amount or artifacting is really hurting my images.
These are ISO 6400-12800 type images and any compression that is applied to them seems to hurt them..lots.
An example..this is an image i have uloaded to photobucket it itself has been affected from the original as well but will give you the idea.
Here is exactly the same image from my website www.vortexaviationphotography.com.
Im sure you can see the difference between them and just remember that the original is better than both.
Is there anyway to have the compression reduced on specific images?
My other hi ISO stuff is also affected with extra grain style artifacts appearing and reducing the quality of the displayed images.
This is only an issue with hi ISO work and i am overall very happy with my site but this artifacting issue on hi ISO stuff is becoming an issue i need to sort out and any help with regard to site settings etc would be great.
Cheers

If you upload reduced size versions of photos already for posting on online, you could just link to that original photo you uploaded instead of having to use our display copies. You can do that by setting 'largest size' to original in the gallery settings and then you could change the link for your photo from 1201023321_9JCA6-X2.jpg to:
1201023321_9JCA6-O.jpg
That would give you the original you uploaded.
Note that our display copies are optimized for use with full size original files and for your resized file that may not be optimal, especially since it's a kind of special photo. You can adjust the display copy sharpening settings in the gallery settings. That may help you to find more optimized settings for photos like the one you posted above. Less sharpening might be a good start. You can find the sharpening setting at the bottom of the gallery settings:
http://www.smugmug.com/help/picture-storage
Note that these settings don't apply to existing photos in a gallery.

Ok forstly i have the sharpening defaulted to zero on all my images as i do my own sharpening so it wont be that.
In fact most of my images are simple 1280 res uploads for display and should have no resizing etc applied to them.
In this case the image is exactly that a 1280 image uploaded for primarily web viewing and has zero sharpening etc applied. There is no resizing down and any alteration to the image would be generated in image compression for storage i'd assume.
In this example i've uploaded the same res image to photobucket and smugmug and simply copied links in for display purposes.
Again zero sharpening in the gallery settings as the uploaded image is in the size i needed for my purposes and what you see above is the result.
The photobucket image is far cleaner and fewer(far fewer) artifacts.
Any ideas as it appears to happen on all my hi ISO stuff(ISO3200+) and it is a major problem..
Thanks
