Dad N Bunky 2 is cool, but I agree -- I'd turn it over so you can read it. Then maybe push the contrast or curves to try to get it to really come out of the concrete?
The goal of my photography is is the effective, original communication of a feeling expressing truth, beauty, or love.

i am with the mayority on the writing.

i really like some things about #5, the sky for one, but overall, it doesn't quite work for me. i like the stripes, the trellis, the sky, the green of the moss, but somehow the overall pic is missing something for me, if i knew what it was, i'd tell you. really.

I like 1 - Fault Line - the perspective is cool, good dof & I love the title! I also like Dad & Bunky 2 - would prefer it right side up & agree that you might boost the contrast, blacks &/or saturation so the words are more prominent.

I like the Pillar #5. I like the curves, shadows, color, has more interest to me. ( I like #1 too, but I did not identify it as concrete until a 2nd closer look )

Thank you all for the great feedback!

I was thinking of calling #5, Holding Up the Sky.

I did a bit of work on #6. I'd love any feedback on the PP, although I will probably go with one of the others for the challenge.

    #7 Shadow 2

And I did some work on the Dad N Bunky idea. Thanks for this challenge, Sean. I had not thought about this as a subject and it preserves a memory for my son, who is Dad, and wrote it.

And then yesterday, I went to a nearby town where they have a little amphitheater.

    #10 Amphitheater - side pano

    #11 Amphitheater - down low

    #12 Amphitheater - higher up

What do you think? Do the Amphitheater shots pop more than Dad N Bunky or Fault Line or Holding Up the Sky?

And now, with the amphitheater, I don't know which I like better!! Dad and Bunky, with the wet concrete and bit of moss, the angle, it's great! I like the first ampitheater best, and the last next, but would crop out the grass and sky and work just with the brick and concrete.....

I like #8 and #1, in that order, but could also go for a shot like #14 if it was tweaked a bit more.

#14. Love the lines on that one, and the color (sort of). Only nit is that it looks a little light on my monitor, so the red looks slightly washed out, and the photo seems a little tilted. Dad and Bunky are a close second.

I like what you did on #6 - the shadows are more defined but the blocks in the shadows also show up better. To me, even though I know those are concrete blocks, it makes me think more of stone blocks for some reason.

Otherwise, my fav is still Fault Line (obviously my preferences are quite different from the rest), then the reworked Dad & Bunky - I like the story of it & glad you could capture that memory. After that, I'd say #14, the last crop - it's a nice shot, like the lines & curves. Good luck!

Thanks for all of the marvelous feedback, everyone!

I was unhappy with the perspective distortion I was getting and I didn't have enough room on the sides to correct it in my original set of shots. I think that's what was bothering you in the original #14, dls. So I went back this afternoon and shot a set of 3 that I merged, corrected, and cropped. And I played with the levels a bit so it is not so washed out.

Thanks for the feedback on the shadow, Lillian! That shot was one of my faves and I was surprised that it didn't get more of a reaction. I like Fault Line a lot, also, but I think I didn't quite nail it.

Thanks, kwickers, for the feedback on #11 and Holding Up the Sky. My husband said #11 and #9 and Holding Up the Sky said concrete most strongly, but weren't visually as strong as #14. And #14 appealed to a lot of people (including me), so I ended up with it.

And, lastly, thanks everyone for the feedback on Dad n Bunky. It may end up as a Christmas gift for someone. :ivar
