teleconverter on a Sigma 50-150...yes or no?

I'm looking to add some reach without breaking the bank.

I mostly do landscape type images and a little bit of action(skateboarding) and I want to try some other sports shooting but I don't have the $$ for more glass.

I know I'm going to lose a stop or two depending on which converter I go with...I'm I going to be happy with the image quality?

I'm currently shooting with a D300.

I'm thinking the next lens purchase would be a Sigma 100-300 f4 or if I had the $$ a Sigma 120-300 f2.8 so the thought would be having the converter stay in my bag as I expand my kit.

Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

thank you :D

sorry, I thought I was posting this in accessories...please feel free to move it.

Yes, I agree that this thread is a better fit for Accessories.

I'll see what I can find about teleconverters and that particular lens.

According to the Sigma site the Sigma 50-150mm, f2.8 EX DC APO HSM (apparently both versions I and II) are compatible with the "Sigma APO Tele Converters". From user accounts that appears to be true but with the usual caveats.
Teleconverters will affect image quality, the 1.4x less so than the 2x.

Teleconverters will affect AF speed, especially at low light levels.

As long as these factors, plus the slower effective apertures, are accounted for I think that a teleconverter on the 50-150mm, f2.8 makes some sense.

I couldn't find any image examples except for the ISO crops at "The-Digital-Picture" which show a noticeable image softening with the 1.4x teleconverter, but it's not the worst showing I've seen and it looks like it would respond pretty well to software sharpening:

Thank you very much for looking into it Ziggy. I had checked with Sigma's site as well and it seemed like it would work.

    but

It's always good to ask(you) the people with more knowledge before jumping in feet first :D

I'll have to come back and share some images once I get my hands on one.
