haven't had much of a chance to post or comment on the images posted so far, so i feel like i'm abusing the priviledge by asking for c&c; but i humbly request the always constructive and never biased opinions of this group. (i'll make the time tonight. i will)

i found these at or near my favorite neighborhood park. re-shooting is possible as long as the weather holds and clouds stay away. (the subjects are not going anywhere)

#1 (i really wish i knew what they were a part of originally. i've googled the history of the town where they are located (Hercules, CA) and there's no mention of any kind of installation that would've resulted in the ruins that are scattered between the train tracks and the bay.)

#2 (high tide markers? there's 4 of them, but composition wise, i like 3 better than 4, so one of them was left out)

#3 (i wanted to do something to show that life wins out every time, but i don't think i was able to pull it off here)

as always, thanks in advance.

I think the first is really nice!
The third, I think you need something like a cracked sidewalk with a dandelion coming out of it...the IDEA is there!!

I'm kinda drawn to #2 - I think it's because there's GREEN grass & the grass hasn't been green here in a long time! :D Otherwise, it doesn't seem too compelling. Maybe a different perspective? I like the lighting in 3, but it doesn't really say concrete, although I do like your idea. :)

I like #2 as well but that sky just kills the shot for me. I would retake the shot more in line with them (to your right) filling more of the frame with the actual markers and grass for color contrast. Maybe even play around with some front to back blur.

Looks like a fun place to take some interesting photos!

I agree with the above comments. I like #2 and idea is there and I like the idea of front to back...

thank you Trish, Lilian, CHANDLERJA and rbustraen.

i took all your advise into consideration, went back to my favorite park and tried a lot of other angles. this is the one i liked best.

not only did i manage to keep the green grass and improve on the sky, but i even got a few flowers in! :) losing the depth markers seemed like a good trade off.

YES! A lovely, tight composition, filling the frame...the flowers are wonderful....not knowing they are high tide markers doesn't take away anything from the photo, where as the one with numbers--well, that is all it was....it was a record of something...this is a great improvement!!!

Really like this last shot - love the flowers! Adds a lot of color & contrast to the shot. Like the comp a lot better too.
