Emilie Autumn: Victorian Violin Cabaret

You've probably never heard of Emilie Autumn, but she is an incredible classical violinist gone mad. She is currently on tour and I have been a fan of hers for years so it was worth going out last night to see her.

I don't go to shows too much because I'm never really sure what I'm supposed to be doing with myself when I'm there. It seems a little dull to just stand there but with most of the music I listen to, dancing isn't always an option unless you get really creative.

Emilie took care of that by concocting a very entertaining, humorous and engaging cabaret-style show.

She's gorgeous, virtuosic and has an incredible set of pipes. Let's not even talk about her delicious costuming. Life's not fair! :lol3

(The girls actually tossed quite a bit of stuff into the crowd, mostly spitting tea with milk as part of their act. The confetti wasn't nearly as bad! I was glad that I was pretty far back, since I didn't want to have to tell Baldy his 50 f/1.2 was toast!)

We met some really great folks in the crowd, too, which was a bonus. In fact, I got my first of 100 strangers, although it was the first shot I took that night with the borrowed lens so it came out pretty poorly. :rolleyes Note to self: Don't talk to strangers in poorly-lit bars.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks, yeah it was a lot of fun! I am too short to see anything so all of the shots were taken with the camera way over my head, lucky guessing on the composition. I actually didn't "see" most of the show until I got home and went through my shots lol3.gif

I used your tip about the b/w layer! That really helped to get detail and contrast back. I have a new addition to my workflow thumb.gif

I think I'm going to write this into Myth Busters for them to put it to the test.

Really excellent, especially considering how much you were shooting blind! Sometimes I think you've got a little photography angel sitting on your shoulder.

Well, I have 300 crappy shots I could post. lol3.gif I'm no angel but I was on the shoulder. Trav actually picked me up to see over the heads from time to time. I think that may have annoyed a lot of folks in the back.

Her tour is almost over but if anyone's thinking about going to one, make sure you buy tix ahead of time! They're not expensive but the venues are small so they sell out. Yesterday in SF they were turning people away.

Awesome shots under the circumstances. Definitely a unique artist. I love her take on Bohemian Rhapsody(one of the vids on the link). No way to be bored in one of her shows. A very accomplished violinist. I would make it a point to go see her in concert if she were close by.

Thanks for the pics and info!!clap.gifclap

+1 Jimmie her cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody" was awesome! She says the violin is the next guitar, and she really proved it.

Hehe Diva I just stole Alex's tip here: http://www.dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=1555831&postcount=9

What resonates with me about EA is that she is classically trained, but broke free because of the expectations that classical performers have to be and look a certain way.

It's more fun to be Lady Gaga, I'm sure. Terrific set. It must have been a fun show. thumb.gif
