Hi everyone

Anyone know what the best Battery for a Canon 20D Is?
I want to buy a 3rd battery and have a Canon 7.4v 1390m Li-ion
I just bought 2 high capacity Memory cards - 4GB Each and want to buy/add a 3rd battery

Where do you suggest to buy one and what do they cost and what is the best replacement?
Canon? Or an off brand?

Thanks

Jeff

"Best" battery is highly qualitative. If you mean, "The battery which is warranted by Canon and guaranteed to work with the Canon 20D camera.", then it could be argued that only a genuine Canon BP-511A will satisfy your needs:

If you mean, "The battery which many folks find suitable and an excellent value.", then there are a number of possible answers. The name "SterlingTek" comes up a lot and for good reason. Most people find their products to be a fair price and very similar quality to the Canon original batteries.

Note that SterlingTek has 2 - different offerings; a "premium" battery and their "Powwer" brand. While the Powwer brand has a slightly higher output rating, the premium version may ultimately last longer in terms of lifetime just because it may have better construction. I believe that you will find both for a similar price.

Just Google for BP511A and SterlingTek to find lots of purchase points.

Since the 20D's are no longer under warranty, there is no risk of voiding your warranty by using a non-Canon battery, hence I have used SterlingTek batteries in my 20D over the years without incident. I don't think they hold quite the charge of a Canon BP511A, but they do work fine.

/cough I'll bug you with my suggestion as well... the brand Phottix works quite well too and they are revising their batteries to be compatible with the original Canon chargers now.

This battery has no chip that reports battery capacity or usage but they do last long and I've had mine for 2 years without dipping in performance whatsoever after about 50-75 full charge/discharge cycles each battery.

These are 1600mAH. The batteries I have for the 5D Mark II last just as long if not longer than the Canon OEM battery that came with it. You can believe their ratings.
