There was a deep shadow there. Figuring out just how far to go with brightening is the trick. Many ways to accomplish that...I've found nothing beats the control or results of the adjustment brush in ACR and a little positive exposure adjustment.
Beautiful capture, Ric. I especially like how the colors pop, and the blue and green contrast with the warmer tones of the hawk.
I think I would have cropped it a bit tighter on the bird, though; I think it might look a little better with about 20% take off the bottom and the right side.
What I said when I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time: "The wide ain't wide enough and the zoom don't zoom enough!"
