Download button

Hi folks,

I wonder if this feature is hidden somewhere or just not present:

I would like to have a download button for my images that is present for non registered users even when I don't allow full size download.

Long story:
I found out that when you allow original file download, then there is a button present (when you hover the mouse over the image) similar to the one that you get when you are the owner of the account. But it seems to be missing when you restrict the maximum viewable image size.

What I'd really like (in fact desperately search for) is to make my images easily available via download button to others, but without having to give them the right to download the full size original.

I'm aware that you can right click "Save As" an image, but for that you always have to enlarge it and that becomes quite bothersome for a bigger amount of images.

Second thing that would be great to have:
Is the possibility to have small check boxes on each image that can be marked and in the end hit the download button only once and download all images via uncompressed zip.

PS: You don't have to longtime store the zip on the server for that, just pack (not compress) it on the fly and wipe it when there was no access to it for the last 5 min.

Cheers
Magnus

PPS: I'd be overly happy if there is a way at least for the first thing I mentioned.

Smugmug does not offer this capability. They offer zip file download only for originals.

Then this is a feature request. Would be really nice to have that!

Smugmug keeps track of feature requests here http://feedback.smugmug.com so if you want yours to be in their system, they want you to enter it there.

Thanks a lot. Great thing with the feature tracker, I'd like to see such a tracker on more websites. I found the second suggestion being already suggested, but the first one seems to be new (or at least I couldn't find it).

If someone wants to support it here is the link:

FYI, if you aren't selling prints (so you don't need the high res photo in Smugmug), you can downsize your images to the desired download size before uploading and then enable originals. Then, they can use the Save Photo button, but only get the smaller size you want them to have.

Yes, I know I can use the workaround but that would be really inconvenient for me, since I want to have the high rez files as well on the server to be able to give them to selected people.

Yes again I know, I could use a workaround and upload them in two versions... but maybe you already see my point. I can imagine that it is not a big thing to adjust the behavior of the already existing button a little bit, else I'd not bother to ask. I think as well that I'm not the only person who'd like to have that.

Not trying to talk you out of your feature request - just offering you a work-around idea in the meantime if you wanted it.

Thanks, help is always appreciated! :)

For me it just sounded a little like: they have so much work, don't bother them with such small requests when you can find a work around. But maybe I'm just not yet used that someone takes feature requests serious and a little bit a burned child from other web pages.

Would still be nice to have, maybe there are more interested in this and willing to vote for this feature.
