When I visit Japan, may I be your shadow for a week? I may not post much, but I just love everything you contribute here. You give us such a wonderful look at the culture surrounding you.

Love these portraits. Love your work.
Wow...thank you for the very nice comment! If you are over here let me know And I am glad to hear you like my work I do very much enjoy the unique culture here in Japan, so I hope to be able to keep providing to you.
seems the Japanese already had the desaturated portrait look from yonks back
I have no crits to make of these images, so far as they go, ie as attractive records of an exotic encounter
but as photographic entities to me they remain too tied to travelogue literalness. Nat Geo even goes further!
you play so much with your sports action, I find it difficult to accept that you play so little with these. for me, photography is play first and foremost. like doing tricks in the air on a bike.
I have to disagree with Neil's comment. I love the classic balance and simplicity and the mood it creates. Just shows another side of the way you see things and the extent of your range. Beautiful work.

Hey guys, thanks everyone for the comments on the shots. Maybe I should mention that I had all of about 30 seconds to this shot and I was a guest at the tea ceremony and didn't even know the Maiko was going to be there.
Neil: I would LOVE to have more time to play with the Maiko and get some interesting shots, but TPO only gave me a slight amount of time to shoot. Next time!
briandelion: Thank you so much. I like to have a wide range of photos, makes things more interesting then taking the same photo all the time.
everyone else: THANK YOU!! Hope I can get more Maiko this year for everyone
#2 is pretty obviously a spontaneous laugh by someone in a good mood. You must have told a joke or done something funny.
But the lady's expression in #1 personifies the formal, serene atmosphere of the traditional tea ceremony. It's simple, it's beautiful, and it's a perfect representation of how I've always thought of the tea ceremony (even though I've never seen one in person).
Well done.
What I said when I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time: "The wide ain't wide enough and the zoom don't zoom enough!"

Thanks! You are quite right about the photos. #1 was when she was posing for everyone there. And then we started talking and someone said something so she laughed, and that is #2. I like shots like #2 a little more myself because you can see more of the actual person behind the makeup, and you realize they are just young girls really.
