I was going to skip this challenge but got a few shots on vacation last week that might be a good fit. Would appreciate input on which image(s) you think might work best for this challenge. Is it better to have the context of the setting or just the replica of the Mayan art? Thank you!

Thanks for your input, Trish. Here is the color take on #4. I was thinking that the strong greens were a distracting background for the Mayan art but would be interested in how others see it.

I love that last one in color. The green leaves are a perfect complement to the color of the concrete. Nice nice nice.

hmmm.... maybe its just me, but I seem to favor the B&W shots a little more. It brings out the shadows and focuses on the texture of the concrete material more. The color seems a bit distracting and I find myself focusing on the foliage than on the subject matter. So #1 and #4 are my faves, with the #1 edging out #4.

Call me a fence sitter. I like #1 in BW, and #4 in color. In #4, the texture of the foliage is there all the time -- better to be bold about it, and make it green. On the other hand, the shadows in #1 are awesome.
The goal of my photography is is the effective, original communication of a feeling expressing truth, beauty, or love.

Any clear favorites among these tweaked variations on a theme?

I like #10 best because the green foilage sets off the concrete. In the all B&W ones, it all kind of blends together for me.

Just want to say thanks again to all who took a minute to help me figure out which direction to go here. As mentioned earlier, I didn't expect to find concrete in or near our lodgings in Mexico without transportation and was pleased to find these cement/concrete replicas depicting Mayan gods. I tried getting shots of "the Mayan gods" at different times of day and night when my tripod was least likely to get in the way of passersby but had very little time for sorting through them and doing the post-processing, so really appreciated the help. My photos of a cenote or of some amazing crepuscular rays are probably my favorites from this trip, but concrete shots were definitely an interesting challenge!
