Pocket Wizard Minitt1-Nikon & Flextt5-Nikon

I'm wondering if the miniTT1 is worth buying? :scratch The flexTT5 works as a transmitter and a receiver, so for a 2 light system should I get 1 x miniTT1 and 2 x flexTT5 or 3 x flexTT5? I know that the mini is smaller but is that worth the trade-off of using batteries that are not readily available and being unable to swap units around in the case of a failure? The $20 price difference seems like it would be made up in the price of batteries over time.

Opinions? :dunno

Admittedly I started the thread referring to the nikon units, however the Canon ones are the same in this regard. Has no one used these pocket wizards?

I have a mini and wouldn't go any other way. It's noticeably smaller on the camera and less likely to snag things. Plus, you always need one transmitter.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. How do you deal with the battery issue? Just carry a bunch of spares?

The batteries seems to last a long time... except when you forget to turn the mini/flexes off when you put them away.

You can check the battery level with the PocketWizard utility, just make sure the unit is turned on when you plug it into the USB cable. If it's not turned on it won't show you the level.

Thanks for the input. I was just concerned because the pocket wizard website says the Nikon version battery lasts 30-50 hours, whereas the Canon one says hundreds of hours. Do you use the Nikon version?

I use the Canon version. The small size of the mini is really nice, but a 30 hour battery life I think I would go for a flex.

Well, after kicking it around for a few days I decided to go with the Flex as the transmitter due to the battery life issue and although it is to soon to have much of an opinion on the battery life, I must say that these little guys rock!! ylsuper.gif The Control TL system with the AC3 controller is just great. No more walking back and forth raising and lowering stands or loosening super clamps to adjust flash output. I absolutely love them. wings.gif

I have my first attempt at middle school soccer and Senior Portraits coming up soon. I can hardly wait.

I will keep you all posted....
