Took a quick trip to Catalina last Friday and Saturday for some high school baseball, Whitney Wildcats vs. Avalon Lancers. Weather was absolutely perfect and Catalina ... is Catalina.

Thanks Richard, I had a great model.
We were negotiating his fees and he didn't care much for the initial offer.

I love California (too many people, too expensive housing, too many earthquakes, too many wild fires notwithstanding) ... the weekend was totally and absolutely perfect. There is a theory had Europeans landed on the west coast that we'd never have heard of manifest destiny. The weather and Catalina were so perfect that there was not another place on earth I would rather have been.

lol ... in California we keep our snow up in the mountains (where it belongs). From Catalina we could barely see the snow capped San Gabriel mountains on mainland. Interesting sight.

Catalina is similar to Santa Monica ... about 60 years ago. Avalon is like a cruise ship ... you'll get away from everything, transported to a slow, relaxing pace, to a place that is a bit of a microcosm of mainland California, high cliffs, steep valleys, quiet coves ... dolphins escorted the ship into Catalina Harbor ... at night there are Flying Fish racing in the channel, bison, deer (a couple of Mule Deer watched an inning of baseball from the hillside), hiking and exploring sea caves via kayaks, a permanent pod of Blue Whales live west of the island ... the first underwater National Park butts up to Catalina Harbor. Best of all, it's only an hour from the mainland.

PS- I used to live only a few minutes from the harbor and the kids and I would, on a whim, take off and spend the day on Catalina.
