I have a Crumpler bag that fits a couple of lenses and a flash. Sometimes I just want to take my camera out without bring the whole bag, but I still want to protect my cam from dust and rain and the apocalypse. Can anyone recommend a simple case that will fit the cam + 17-55 lens? There's a bunch of them on Amazon of course. I just don't know which one's good.

Thanks!

You also need to include whether you want to accommodate the lens hood and whether the hood would be stored forward or reversed.

Probably not, I don't usually use the lens hood. If I do, it will be stored backwards. Thanks!

Look at the camera bags from Kinesis gear - water proof and first rate.

I have several in different sizes, they will take a standard crop camera or a full sized 1 series Pro body in the larger sizes

Outside of your $30 budget, but at a good price still is the ThinkTank Digital Holster 20 v2.0. I use it for my D7K with my 16-85mm with hood extended. It's the perfect size to go with me, has a pocket where I carry the GPS in case I'm shooting outdoors, and is overall a great case.
