Hey everyone - fairly new to Smugmug...and my slideshow quit working. I'm not sure if I need to update something like Java or other software? I'm running windows 7, 64 bit. The slideshow box appears empty with a little tiny icon in the upper LH corner...not sure what it means

thanks in advance

Have you tried it on another computer? A lot of times automated updates on your computer and browser can break stuff on your computer and make it appear like something on SM has stopped working. Checking on another computer would eliminate this possibility.

Thanks everyone; Yes, it works on our desktop. Thanks Andy, I'll try to update the flash player. I wasn't sure which software supported it. (I'm not the most computer savvy)

So is it not working on a different computer?

If it works on the other computer, then it means that nothing is wrong with your SM, which is good because your visitors won't have problems. :)

But it does mean something went wrong with your desktop. And like I said earlier, if you haven't purposely changed anything, installed anything, etc., it's probably some sort of automated system update or software update that broke it.

Such a wonderful reason to switch to a non-flash-based slideshow! Never again a slideshow issue with flash not being properly installed or being wedged for some reason.

Thanks Jfriend, if I was more computer savvy, I might try that. I found that the latesr Adobe flash player does not work with Windows 7 64 bit. What a sham. I've tried installing a 32 bit or their "square" version but it does not work. I'm so frustrated. I don't care if I cant see my slideshow, but I cannot view others.

It works on Win7 64 bit, it won't work in IE9 64 bit browser (adobe limitation). I'm viewing your slideshow in IE9 right now on Win7 64bit OS.

Thanks Andy, I'm confused...is your IE9 a 32 bit? You mentioned it wont work on IE9 64 bit so I'm not certain what bit version you have that does work.

I have win 7 64 bit OS. I was using IE8 32 bit and 64 bit (square). I just intalled IE9 64 bit and it does not work as you mentioned. Any ideas? I wonder if I have a conflict with software.

Start IE9 in 32 bit mode (from the Windows start menu).
Or even better, use an awesome browser like Firefox or Chrome thumb.gif

THANK YOU Andy, Firefox gets the nod. FINALLY, something that worked. For whatever reason, both IE choices in the start menu are 64 bit. (one listed as, one not) We are not pleased with Adobe...

    thanks again
