Surreal Morning

I was up early this morning to shoot a sunrise over a pond. That ended up being a wash because a low fast moving cloud cover masked the great colors in a higher layer of clouds. There were about three layers of clouds in all being moved around from the remaining winds from Rita (I was about 350 miles east of where the storm was this morning).

The sun had been up about 45 minutes and I was heading home in this very surreal setting. The clouds were really flying by. So much so that they reminded me of a real-time lapse scene in a movie where the clouds are just flying across the sky. Then there were these patches of sunlight. Then I hit one of my turns and I saw this barn bathed in sunlight with the mountains in the background in shadows and the clouds flying by left to right.

I could have probably done better capturing the moment with a video camera since there was so much movement in the sky, but all I had was the still camera. I hope that I at least caught a little of the movement with the shape of the clouds and how surreal it looked with the mountains in shadows and much of the sky darkened with storm clouds.

Comments and suggestions welcome. Click on image for EXIF.

    Very Beautiful, Dixie!

I have to get up earlier more often. But that is gorgeous and special.

Lovely shot. What is is about old barns? I love them too. Think how nice this same subject will be a a few weeks, when the leaves begin to turn?

That's an amazing photograph. I love the coloration especially.

You're lucky to be able to wake up to that. I wish I could, I wake up to houses across the street.

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments. ...and Path, I'll try to reshoot it when the leaves are turning. I will be in the Smoky Mountains from Oct 14th - 30th to shoot the fall colors there, but hopefully, there will still be some color here where I live to shoot the barn again.

...and if anyone is interested in getting together with me while I am in the Smokies just drop me an e-mail at Dixie@graphicvisions.us or send me a PM and we will see what we can work out. I will be staying in a camper in Townsend, TN near the Cades Cove entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

I love the shot, especially the warm feel to it. I bet it would look stunning with changing leaves, but something tells me that this subject would be compelling in all seasons.
