I would like to completly redo my website. Is there an area that I can redo my website, test it and then just move it over?

I don't want it to be under construction while I'm customizing.

Thanks,

There is no test area. You can either code the customizations so they are hidden from the public (but visible to you) while you're working on them (which is a lot of extra work) or some people take out a trial account and use that for prototyping/testing (I don't know what Smugmug thinks about that).

You can set up a free trial account anytime with a new email address. That's one way.

Following this question, if one has an account that is password protected - the whole account not just a gallery - Will customization work the same?
