need your eyes please

just received my tamron 28-75. need your eyes on test shots does it seem soft to you?

I cant tell if its soft, or motion blur since it's a little heavier than what i usually shoot with (primes)

the first few are at 75 2.8 and shutter speeds > 100 and ISO between 400-800 focus all on the eyes, no PP

the next one is 75mm stopped down to 3.5 1/160 800 seems a little sharper

this one seems the sharpest at the other focal end.. 28mm 1/200 2.8 400 this has pp but no local sharpening or anything

I received the nikon 35mm 1.8 yesterday and was blown away by the sharpness of this one wide open (SOOC):

Now i realize that one is a tamron and the other is Nikon. I just want to be sure that I have a good copy of the tamron AKA is this as good as it gets with it? It seems that all the way open and at the longest length the sharpness deteriorates a little. which is to be expected, right? when i stop down a little the sharpness is a little better.


Basically i need opinions on whether this is a good copy or not. this is my first non nikon lens. thanks folks :)

    the tammy looks pretty much on spec to me handheld at those settings (but I'm not an owner)

    +1. V shallow depth of field in several of them thus focus area is small, but the eyes where you focused look very sharp for SOOC. thumb.gif

    I think a couple of eye tricks might be throwing it off.

    1 the main one is lighting. Two separate scenes. Girl on steps is clear crisp. (see hairs on face). While the pic with darker background and infant is not as flat lighting so overall it will appear sharper with the contrast.

    2. The Cameron lens definitely has more glass but I don't see a big difference.

    Here's a trial. Get a tripod, use a household item. Shoot it at 35mm on both lenses at same ap and switch lenses. You might find a little clarity difference with fixed lens

    Tammy 28-75's have softness issues below f/4.5 or so. When I need crisp images, I just set mine between that up to ~f/8.

    Thanks for the reassurance guys (& gal lol) I think I just needed some fresh eyes. I'd been staring at it all for way too long :)
