I don't know if this belongs in this forum, but here goes......

Someone named "John" posted a nasty comment on my Guestbook. I'm pretty sure I know who it is, but is there any way to confirm it? I am planning to delete the post eventually, sooner rather than later, but I figured I'd ask first. Also, if I do delete the post, and she (yes, she...) posts another nasty, can I report it as abuse? Can I report her abuse right now, anyway? Not sure how to proceed.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry there is not. You can always turn on comment approval in your control panel - that will help!

Wow, that is an incredibly hidden setting in the control panel (to turn on/off comment approval). I knew the feature existed, yet when I looked all over the control panel twice, I still couldn't find it.

That is about as buried as it could be. The only way you would find it is if you accidentally saw it when you went to view your comments because the option to require approval is not actually in the control panel itself, it's only in the View Comments screen.

I hope someone in Smugmug UI-land is going to clean this one up at some point. I would wager that most users wouldn't be able to find this feature even if you told them it existed and you got to it through the control panel.

    We are, we are.

And it's fully listed on our comments help page.

Even the help page doesn't really tell you where to go to find the option. Anyway, as long as it's going to get cleaned up at some point.

Thanks!!! I didn't know that the option was available, till you mentioned it, John. I went looking, and voila!! I deleted the nasty post, actually put there by my cousin's wife. She hates me because I'm politically liberal. Can you imagine? Anyway, I've now have the guestbook configured to require approval. That's really what I needed. And, I even saw comments I never realized were there. Nice comments. Stuff that feeds my ego. :-)

Are you now screening your comments according to political view-point?
    KIDDING!

Do you know, you can opt to have an e-mail sent to you when somebody leaves a comment? It's a nice feature. I would not ordinarily think to check my comments of my own accord.

Wish I could tell you where this option lives - somewhere in control panel, I think.

This was my earlier point. It is a hard setting to find. It's not actually in the settings tab (at least that I see). Where I finally found it is this:

    Control Panel
    Stats Tab
View Total Comments (opens a new screen)
Checkbox in upper right for [X] Require Comment Approval

Hi John, I was replying to Sara, who mentioned about the email notification. Thanks.

Yup. Got it all configured now. Getting notifications and screening comments. But, I'm not screening for political content, unless some dirtbag leaves a nasty political comment. It's so bizarre. Seriously, I never had any "enemies" until I encountered this nut job. ..... sigh......

    Thanks everyone for your help!
