Hello friends!

Took a stroll at Skansen today. It is the oldest open-air museum in the world. Skansen is also a zoological park specializing mainly in Scandinavian wildlife. By a "coincident" I had my camera with me, so I snapped a few "wild life" pictures. :wink Once again, I have to say I'm very happy with my new Sigma lens. Most of these are shot handheld at 300 mm.

I got close contact with this Lynx, ca 25-30 cm, and it was very exhiting. I'm glad there was a fence between us, because this little kitten really wanted to digg in on me. (I'm glad someone does!) :D

It attacked the fence, roaring and showing off a very aggressive behavior. She had puppies, so I guess that's why. The fence actually got bended! *Exhiting*

And a few fox shots. Can't deside (of the two first) wheather I prefer the warmer or cooler one. (Shot in RAW, "developed" differently)

My two favorites. Sharp & beautiful colors. The DOF in the last one is particularly pleasing!

Beautiful shots Mattias. I especially like #1, 5, 6, and 10. For the two that you processed differently I like the first "warmer" one better. From the shadows it looks like it was nearing sunset and the warmer colors look more realistic to the light. #'s 1,2, and 4 look like they may have a bit too much yellow in them. Overall they are all well done.

Excellent collect Mattias thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif Love the late afternoon warmth in the fox shots.

I'm sure there must be some people out there that would love to buy at least one of these.

    elfving,

I saw this shot and thought: what a perfect candidate for LAB! That green cast on the fur is very easy to remove with a simple A curve. I did it, but I don't want to post without permission.

If you've been following the LAB discussion, this is stuff that we haven't covered yet.

Thanx Owen! Yes, I just love my new sigma lens. 300 mm does miracles for DOF. :):

    Thanx Nick!
Yes, your right, the sun was rather low, and the "warmer" pic reflects what the scene actually looked like. Sometimes colors can be so confusing, but I think that the color of the cat at pic #1 is the most accurate of them all. #3 is a little to red/orange. headscratch.gif

Thanx for your input / Matty

    Thank you, Darryl!
You know, I was just about to put my camera away (Yeah, like that would ever happen! :D ) and go home when I caught site of the fox. I was very happy, because apart from the lynx pictures, there wasn't much of interest to shoot that day, and I was far from satisfied (aren't we always?) mwink.gif The foxes actually was what made the trip worth while. They are so beautiful!

You think so? Oh man! *Dreaming* It would be so cool to sell a picture! Oh boy, I wish that'll happen one day! rolleyes1.gif

Hey Michiel! Thanx! thumb.gif I'm so pleased with my new cheapo-cheapo-lens! You usually get what you pay for, but in this case, I think I got much more than I thought I was paying for! I guess it can't be compared with L-lenses, but if you compare the differential in price - well, then I can live with the loss in quality. (For a while at least!) rolleyes1.gif

OK, so here's the before and after:

    37636565-O.jpg
    37769386-O.jpg

    Here's the curve I applied:

    37769618-M.jpg

But it took out a bit of the green in the sunlit leaves, where the saturation of green was less than everything else. so I applied a mask. It was a very easy, simple mask.

    37769625-M.jpg

The whole thing took a couple of minutes, and I really like how it got rid of the green cast on the underside of the lynx.

Your edit is really neat. About the green cast, I got to wondering: It is probably really there, the leaves being reflected by the fur.

This was truly last light, my legs were tired, my husband could no longer read and was anxious to leave, but the magic and I, we lingered........"

I'm sure that's why it's there. But it looks better without!

    Hey David!

That's cool! To be honest, I hadn't noticed the green tint before you meantioned it, no, before you removed it. Thanks for the "tutorial". thumb.gif I gotta look into tweakin' in LAB-mod. All I've done in LAB-mode before is a way to converting to BW, and a sharpening method. There is so much to learn. That's great!

Wonderful photos, you can take those color casts out in RAW, too. That is how I do it. With the WB eye dropper. Or just eyeball the WB. I have green on my birds from the algae all the time.

ginger (I like how you did the poster frame, too.)
After all is said and done, it is the sweet tea.

It's like when you buy a VW and then that's all you notice on the roads.

Since playing with LAB, not only am I always appraising whether a shot could benefit, but I had one shot where my wife's white t-shirt had a blue cast from the sky. When I realized how easy it was to remove, I've been looking for other applications of the same technique.

There's lots of ways to do it, true, Ginger. The great thing about LAB is that you can target a specific range of green (or whatever) very easily.
