Hello dgrin friends my neighbor bumped into an old high school classmate of his that does old tin and ambrotype photography.
Check out the youtube video of Harry Taylors volunteer portrait session for Heartsapart.org . There was a lot of work ,artistry and chemistry involved in every single exposure of early photography.
Looking at this video made me realize why people in the old photos didn't smile. If they moved there expression the slightest you would get a motion blur.
