Nikon AF-S TC20EIII broken?

After a long wait I was able to acquire one of these elusive TC's, but I have a quick question. Right out of the box it makes a rattling noise. I looked, and it appears that the lever that actuates the aperture just kinda flops around. Seems to go away when a lens is attached. Is this normal? :scratch Or do I need to send it back? :dunno It kind of annoys me to hear stuff rattling around in my gear bag.

I would have sent it back without hesitation........but now you could always attach and try it out if it works then inquire from the seller on why it is so noisy.....I do not own any Nikon TC's but my Sigma does not rattle......

I've got the 1.7 version and the aperture tang does move loosely. It does rattle if I shake it.

    Sounds normal.

Well, I don't know. It's just a pet peeve I guess. Like when you have 2 or more lens hoods nestled together and your hiking up some hill and they sit in the backpack clanging into each other. In my head I keep hearing little rub marks that devalue resale when it comes time to upgrade. A little neurotic perhaps but what can I say :crazy

Thanks for the input. I'm still going to give ole Nikon a call in the morning to double check. Since the stupid thing costs $499.99, I want to make sure it's not an unwanted "upgrade".

That's normal, as long as you can fix it to your camera and shoot normally.

I heard the same and tried to return it to the shop. Then I tried several 20eIII in the shop and found that they are all the same, with the hanging pin floping freely making such a noise.
