Make a copy un-did the arrangement in my gallery

I guess I came back too soon. Things really are wacky here today. This time, I simply made a copy of a photo in this gallery: http://www.winsomeworks.com/Nature/Earth-Day-2010-Late-Afternoon/11932357_oNxqv#845393083_4bcsg and as soon as the copy showed up, it didn't show up beside the first one like it usually does; it was elsewhere in the gallery. Not only that, the entire arrangement of the gallery was suddenly thrown off, and still is. I'd had like plants grouped together, and now they're all here, there & everywhere. Another gallery did the same thing during a copy earlier, but it took me two of them to figure out exactly when the messed up arrangement had happened. There seems to be all kinds of weird stuff going on with gallery arranging... besides the tool that's bugged, I mean. I'm not trying to be a pain... really. Just want to warn people-- if you need to copy a photo, I'd hold off doing it in any galleries where the arrangement is really important to you.

Is there any info about this weird stuff that's going on? I only tried to do 3 to 4 different actions today, and anything I did made a gallery completely lose its arrangement. In this gallery: http://www.winsomeworks.com/Flowers/Poppies-on-Mothers-Day/9583130_DV6AQ#681516493_CvktW I tried to replace a photo. I didn't even complete the action, just canceled it because I decided to upload a new one instead. But even that made the whole gallery shuffle itself. It makes no sense to me, because it wasn't even an arrange function that I was doing! I tried re-arranging it, & it appeared fixed. Then the arrangement got all goofed up again after I went into Gallery Settings to fix some stuff there. I'm afraid to do anything in any galleries now, as it seems any changes at all make the whole gallery shuffle around. I know there's an arrange bug that you guys are working on, but nothing this severe was happening before. Before, arrangements just weren't saving. But now, images are shuffling with no provocation... or at least, with an un-related change to a photo. I haven't heard if anyone else is having that happen.

Anna Lisa, We do have a bug filed on this behavior. The way it was described to me is that it has to do with how we used to sort your photos against how we do it now. The table had blank spots when the manual arrange was used. We are now reindexing the gallery when you add the photos and its causing some problems. The programmers are looking into the cause and hopefully we can prevent it from happening. One good thing is that once the index has occurred the problem should not happen again.

Ouch. After two hours of arranging a very large 300-photo gallery yesterday -- today I make a copy of a single photo, and all the arrangement is gone. Too much eye-numbing arrangement work down the drain. (the gallery was http://gmeredith.smugmug.com/Family/All-Family/)

Please notify me or post in this thread when this is fixed, I can't spend the time to do this if it will happen again.

    Thanks.

Gyro, I cannot give you a time estimate but look for a post on our release notes when that is updated. You can view the release notes here: http://news.smugmug.com/ I would recommend signing up for the RSS feed. Or by leaving a comment, you have the option to be notified by email when a new post is added.

I am here at HQ this week and I have personally spoken with the programmers that are looking at this. I have relayed to them how important it is and they are working on it.

Doc, could you tell us how much of this was fixed last night? I saw that "moving a photo" is no longer supposed to mess up arrangements, but another issue was uploading new images... that was also messing up arrangements. Was that fixed too? I just haven't seen any comments here from "above", and I think lots of people are afraid to try it out.
