B&W or Colour?

Ok, so first off, I hope everyone is doing well. Spring is almost here, and with it means more outdoor shoots!

Anyhow, I've been working on some of my photos and there is one in particular that I am throwing out there to you guys and gals to be the judges. The first one is colour and the second one I converted to B&W, but tried to give a more 30's / 40's kind of appeal and finish.

Take a look and let me know which is your favourite!

1. Colour

2. B&W

Thanks!

Honestly - I like them both. They both have uniqueness to my eye - I love BW photography though so I am most likely the minority on this one. I might crop in both sides to give me focus on the little boy in focus though.

I prefer the colored one! It just makes it feel so much more summery to me!

Put me down for the B&W. The boy pops out better against the background.

That being said, I'm entirely in favor of summer coming soon. :)

Thank you very much for all your responses. I love both, but I am leaning towards b&w and will be printing both out, just one will be printed on metal, versus a luster print.

I prefer the color rendering. I think the B&W is a bit contrasty for children. Crop, crop, crop. Love the little bokeh girls in the BG! (OMG, the goggles!)

I like the B&W very much but that seagull with the bullseye on it's wing is bothering me.

B&W is a winner for me. It focuses the eye on the main subject. The depth of field is beautiful.

I would have to say color also. B&W too "strong" i feel.

The great thing about this stuff is, we have a choice. Frame and hang either one and put the other away - in a book, or collection - but out of sight - later, when you see the one that hasn't been hanging on the wall, it will look fresh and new.

At least that's what happens to me.

I still favor the B&W (but I am an avowed B&W addict), and while I understand the comments Re cropping, there's something wonderful about the large space here. I think it provides context and emphasizes the fact that this is a small child.

Thank you all for your comments. As for cropping, I wanted to keep the negative space because I felt it gave a larger sense to the overall scene (if that makes any sense whatsoever). As for B&W vs. Colour, well, as Sara mentioned it's great that we have choices :)

I've pretty much decided to hang the B&W one, mainly because I don't many B&W photos hanging my wall. It's kind of a silly reason, but none the less a reason :) Has anyone used Bay Labs to print the metal sheets that have the risers on them, and not the metal prints on paper?

Thanks for all your comments again, and if anyone has any other comments, please feel free to add them.

    Thanks,
    Joe
