As I'm researching these lights and I came across the Interfit EXD200 Home Studio system (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/500438-REG/Interfit_INT119_Home_Studio_EXD200_110VAC.html)

They also make a 400W system, so my question is, is 200W per light enough for portrait work and a 3-4 group picture or do I need the 400W system? Also, what max distance can I get with 200W?

A set of two lights in the 200ws range can be quite sufficient in a small studio situation...Even smaller can work...When you think about it, most small canon and nikon flash units are only 65 to 90 ws anyway, and plenty of portraits are made with them....Even though I have many large power packs and heads, I am currently using some old StudioMasterII rigs that are rated at 200ws or so....The set in your link has a large softbox so it can be put fairly close without much trouble...As you will find out when you get into studio style shooting, its not so much how much power you have, but how you control the light you have... I suggest you do some reading and or check some flckr studio shots to gain some input and then shoot, shoot, shoot to thoughly get familier with your lights...

By the way, I am seriously thinking of getting the Interfit X-treem 300ws AC/DC rig with battery pack...I've seen these units around and though not small, they seem to be fairly rugged and as a bonus are battery powered for outside use...

    Cheers
